Configuration backup, location of files
Quote from Thorsten Ostermann on 14 August 2024, 22:00We had an issue that SimCNC "forgot" part of the machine configuration for whatever reason. I would like to backup the configuration files to allow an easy restore in case this happens again. Which files keep the important information?
Installation path is c:\Program Files\simCNC
I assume folder \profiles contains the available configurations/profiles, with config.xml containing all machine and IO settings? E.g. Axis resolutions, controller settings, IO assignments?
There is a subfolder \scripts with phyton scripts for M-codes, but others like __GUI.py as well. Which file contains the GUI definition? Or which file holds the information which GUI is loaded as default?
Best Regards

Quote from Thorsten Ostermann on 19 August 2024, 21:10The issue happend again today. For some reason, the config.xml was damaged or not read correct. As a result, IO settings were not loaded and machine was not operational.
After restoring the file from a backup, the configuration was loaded and the machine worked as expected. Installed version is simCNC 3.503
Is this a known issue?

I went through a phase of this happening sometimes following a crash other times not where some values would be changed but not enough to stop the machine starting. Most common was the port for the limit switches which would then cause a crash on ref of the axis. I just learned to live with it. There were no solutions from the company that I recall

Quote from Thorsten Ostermann on 20 August 2024, 17:18Oh, that's no good news. From my opinion, this is a critical bug.
For hobbyist, this may be no big issue. But for commercial use, this will not work at all. We cannot have software experts support production equipment.

Quote from CS-Lab Support on 21 August 2024, 06:51Use the export profile to file option (go to "Configuration" / "Change Profile", then click once on your profile name and select "Export").
Are you sure you have the latest version of simCNC?
Long ago simCNC had a problem with restoring some settings to their original state, but this has been fixed.

Quote from CS-Lab Support on 26 August 2024, 08:37There is currently no newer version.
Version 3.600 Beta will probably be released by the end of the month.
