Fusion Software

Autodesk Fusion is one of the most popular engineering programs for design. It is a simple and at the same time complete cloud application combining 3D, CAD, CAM, CAE tools. In other words; it is one combined tool for modeling and production at an affordable price.
Fusion is for Windows® and Mac OS X computers®. Of course, it is possible to communicate with other project participants. You can share 2D and 3D schema files with project team members, contractors, or clients—anyone who needs access to the files. The created projects and data are located in the cloud in an individual customer account, and access to data is possible from any place and device with Internet access. The files are shared via a secure link that can be sent by email or instant messaging.

What does the functionality of Fusion include?

This software includes modules for free and direct modeling, parametric, mesh, and surface modeling, we can perform FEM analysis, and machining in it. Fusion is an excellent tool to support 3D printing, visualization, and technical documentation. It also has a rich library. Below we present detailed information about the above-mentioned functions:

Direct modeling: Fusion direct modeling tool allows you to modify the geometry of a model without having to edit the interim model stages. You can seamlessly make design changes without causing modeling errors.
Freeform modeling: Freeform tools provide an alternate modeling approach to explore and create t-spline-based models in seconds using direct manipulation.
Parametric modeling: Fusion fully supports parametric modeling, the automatic change of an entire design when one-dimensional value changes. With Fusion, you can quickly resize, add features, and re-version a model and see the changes in real-time.
Surface modeling: The flexible toolset in Fusion makes 3D surface modeling easy. Create the external aesthetics of an object using built-in tools like freeform sculpting, polygon manipulation, and parametric modeling.
Mesh modeling: Edit and repair mesh files inside your CAD tool. Use the mesh to make a sketch cross section, then add parametric features to the design.
Sheet metal modeling: Fusion includes tools to bend, edit, and flat pattern sheet metal designs. Capture all the steps to build sheet metal components and ensure their success through integration with our fabrication tools in the CAM environment.

Is it possible to precisely determine the condition of individual components in Fusion at the design stage?

Naturally, in this case we are talking about FEM analyses. They are implemented very often and are characterized by extraordinary efficiency. FEM simulations not only allow for precise determination of individual elements, but also the entire structure. As you well know, the constructor is required to ensure that his design work meets certain strength conditions. In engineering work, it is not uncommon to compare different design variants of the product in order to be able to decide which will be characterized by the best strength properties, which is why Fusion also in this case meets the expectations of designers and allows very convenient conduct of reliable FEM tests. Thanks to FEA, constructions from many fields can be considered in terms of machine durability, rigidity and strength.

What is a CAM module?

The CAM module is a comprehensive response to the voices of dissatisfied users of other programs who are struggling with the problem of manufacturing previously designed elements. Fusion Cloud enables comprehensive process design and is a solution for people who need to smoothly transfer a 3D model to CNC numerical machine tools.  The well-equipped library of postprocessors included in the program makes the cooperation of the software with the CNC machine run smoothly, professionally and, of course, without incurring any additional costs.  The functions and capabilities of the program will allow milling from 2.5 to 5 axes, turning and operation of machines for cutting with water, plasma or laser. The end result of a designed technological process is always G-code.

3D printing

3D Printers: Prepare your designs for 3D printing – review the structure, make corrections, automatically generate reinforcing elements. Print several models at the same time. Fusion works with 3D printing software – also with Autodesk Print Studio (direct communication with Autodesk Ember 3D printer), and is compatible with many types of 3D printers.

Thanks to the built-in possibility of replacing any solid model with a stereolithographic model, we get the opportunity to optimize the mesh and direct export to 3D printing configuration programs. One of the external programs integrated with Autodesk Fusion is Autodesk Print Studio.

Visualization

Everyone with this innovative Autodesk solution, Autodesk Fusion, will be able to enjoy the effects of their work thanks to realistic visualizations. During their creation, we have to use a rich library of materials and ready-made environments for visualization. Examples of what Autodesk Fusion users can do below.

Does the software have the function of integration with model libraries?

By purchasing Fusion you have the opportunity to use a rich library of standard structural elements according to ISO, ANSI, DIN standards. Autodesk Fusion has access to various databases of CAD projects m.in the well-known McMaster-Carr. However, I mentioned that Fusion is a very dynamically developing program and its new functionality is integration with model libraries provided by TraceParts. As you probably know, TraceParts is part of the Trace Group, which has existed since 1989, and offers huge libraries of CAD parts, product configurators and electronics schematics. In the TraceParts database you can find more than 100 million models and technical specifications that are available to Fusion users for free. This is undoubtedly a milestone for Autodesk, Autodesk Fusion, because TraceParts allows the export of models to a gigantic number of formats – including 3MF and STL.

What does design with integrated simulation look like?

Let’s start from the beginning: SIMULATION is an environment for calculations, analyses and simulations. The user of the software has at his disposal as many as 8 types of analyses performed using the finite element method.

Simulation and testing: Simulating the operation of the model in real conditions, before the start of production, will save you time and money. Simulate the work of the model and analyze the results to determine the weakest points of the structure. Discuss simulation results with your team using the A360 platform.   Choose from several types of simulation: linear static stresses, modal frequency, thermal analysis, thermal stresses.
Data Import: Use standard CAD formats, import SLDPRT, SAT, IGES, STEP, STL, OBJ. Fusion retains the original file and creates an F3D equivalent. Export files locally (IGES, SAT, SMT, STEP, F3D, DXF) or in the cloud (Inventor 2014, IGES, SAT, SMT, STEP, DWG, DXF, STL, FBX, F3D) – if the model is transformed in the cloud, you will be notified by e-mail.
Model assembly: Connect the parts of the model and select the appropriate types of connections: rigid, rotary, cylindrical, ball min. Ask connection restrictions and perform real-time kinematics analysis.
Connection and motion analysis: Investigate how the prototype will behave by activating all connections in the motion study. Animate and analyze connections motion, defining it in the right order, recreate the sequence from beginning to end, and from end to beginning.
Rendering: Create photorealistic renderings using the real-time ray-tracing engine locally, or the processing power of the cloud. Use rich material libraries (translucent plastic, metals, glass, composites) or modify and create your own.  Browse different camera setting options – focal length, depth of field, lighting types and types.

Who is Fusion for?

Autodesk Fusion is primarily designed for workers in the mechanical industry. Ideal for small and micro enterprises for which design is not the basis of operation. It is an excellent solution for individual users; designers dealing with modeling, industrial design, design. In addition, it is a comprehensive response to the demand for specialists creating elements on 3D printers, designers of toys, household appliances and even for companies involved in the production of elements for tuning cars and motorcycles.

What’s included in Fusion?

3D modeling module, strength simulation, visualization, computer-aided manufacturing (CAM) – these are just some of the capabilities of Fusion 360. In addition, the software has tools for free modeling, 2D drawing and sheet metal structures. Thanks to the software, it is possible to make a photo-realistic visualization and produce an actual product. Since the software is constantly being improved you have access to the latest technologies without additional costs.
