Configuration of a step/dir controlled Spindle motor?

@ CS-Lab Support:

This request is about a smallish table-top Mill:

Retrofitted Emco VMC100 3 axis Mill with tool change carousel.
Mach4 Hobby v. 4.2.0.4405 and CSMIO IP-S v. 3.412.
Spindle servo motor powered by an Argon drive (Granite Devices) with step/dir control and encoder feedback.

The spindle motor is used on motor step/dir output 4 of the IP-S to drive the carousel during the ATC (M6) procedure. This is working correctly. To work as tool spindle the control is switched to step/dir output 5. This used to work in the past, about 2 years ago. Recently it lost speed control (Gcode s-- command) and always runs at maximum rpm as assigned in the motors tab of Mach4.

My question is how to configure this output 5 as Spindle correctly? Can you point me to some documentation? Am I using the correct IP-S plugin version?

Hello,

Please take a look at the document attached.

@ CS-Lab Support:

This PDF documents explains very nicely how to configure the spindle. Speed is calculated in degrees per second in stead of rotations per minute and pulses per rotation. After correction of my motor settings the spindle runs as intended.

Thank you for pointing me to this document. Never found it before while searching on your website.

Also found that the register "Spindle Axis Velocity" under the CSMIO-IP entry in the Diagnostic / Regfile gives the speed in degrees per second now.
