CSMIO/IP-A Digital input current

I have a Metrol P11 switch that I would like to use as a tool setter. I would like to keep the current through it as low as possible but as I understand it, the digital inputs are opto-isolators?
What is the minimum current that must flow for an input to work? or have I misunderstood the way the digital inputs work?
Metrol switch is rated at 10mA or less and I would like to run as low as possible to extend contact life

Precise sensors should be equipped with a current amplifier.
This amplifier causes a current of several micro Amperes to flow through the sensor contact, and the output signal from the amplifier has a high current efficiency.

Officially, the digital input of the CSMIO/IP controller requires a voltage of 24V +/-10, which causes a current of 10mA.
Unofficially, the digital inputs should still work correctly with a voltage of about 12V, which produces a current of 5mA.

Regards,
Wojtek
